The Photo Shoot

We bought a new camera to take really good pictures of Colton and our life moving forward. I had asked our friend who has the blog "McSpins" what camera she has because her pictures always look amazing. Go check out the blog on the side of this page and you will agree that her pictures are incredible. When Brian and I went to the camera shop, the professional behind the counter talked us out of the one our friend has for a more manageable one. He said we would get a similar quality with the convenience of a smaller camera. I thought our new Panasonic point and shoot digital camera was going to be the panacea to all bad pictures we take. But much to our dismay, it was evident that it really isn't the camera that does the trick, it is the person behind the camera, the one with the vision. Brian and I conducted a mini photo shoot for Colton to try our skill at some photography - and we quickly realized we had no idea what we were doing. But with a boy this cute - you can't go wrong. Here are a few of my favorites.

Cousins

Ellen and David bought a frame with the title - Cousins. So we took our first of many pictures that will live in the frame. As soon as Colton can hold up his head, we will take one with Val.

Weekend Fun

David, Ellen, Alana, and Gavin drove in from Pittsburgh to meet their nephew and cousin. We celebrated with a BBQ at our house with the Kenney's and Morse's. Bob and Mary brought their bouncy toy and the kids had a blast jumping around. Ava and Luke had their one of many popsicles, Alana said she didn't want to leave, and Gavin and his foot fetish gave mine lots of kisses.

Mom & Dad Saves the Day

When I called my parents to tell them I was being admitted to the hospital to be induced, they dropped everything and jumped in the car so they could be there to meet their new grandson when he arrived. They drove late into the evening and within 5 hours, got to our house in Philadelphia.

For some odd reason, I thought I would be able to dance a jig after having a baby. I didn't realize that while giving birth literally takes a life out of you, it also figuratively sucks the life out of you. Thankfully, my parents knew about this and were here to help out while getting to know their new little man in their life. My dad stayed for a week before going back to work and my mom stayed for 2 weeks.

My dad put himself to work and cleaned every window in our house (we lived in this house for 6 years and never cleaned our windows). He scrubbed every screen and washed both inside and out. Now Colton can see clearly when he looks out the windows. They look amazing. My mom cooked, cleaned, did laundry, and took Colton when we needed to nap. It was an incredible gift to have them here to help. I'm not sure we could have made it without them. We thank them very much!

Patrick Meets Colton

On March 19th, our good friends Christina and Travis had a baby boy (Patrick). Patrick was Colton's first friend to come visit. While only 2 months older than Colton, he looks like a giant. We hope to have lots of play dates in the future with our boys. Can't wait for them to be best of friends.

Welcome Colton Matthew Kenney

On Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 6:47am - Colton Matthew Kenney entered the world. He was a peanut weighing in at 5lbs & 15ozs and was 20 inches long. It was quite the experience for me and Brian.

Brian and I went into the hospital on Saturday late afternoon after calling the doctor due to a mild headache. I had been diagnosed with preeclampsia and having a headache is something they don't mess around with apparently. We sat in triage with our most important question being, 'Can we get the Flyers playoff game on this TV?' They decided to admit me that evening with the plan to induce. I was induced at 7pm and they told us it could take a very long time to progress. Apparently Colton had another plan. By 6am the next morning, intense contractions came out of no where and I was begging (with expletives) for an epidural. I had gone from 1cm to 10cm and was ready to push. With no epidural, one contraction, and 3 pushes, Colton was here. Brian watched his son be born and cut the cord proudly. We named him Colton after having a look at our little man. Below is one of my favorite shots.
