Who's Got a Wii

Brian got one for Christmas this year and the boys had fun playing with it (as they normally do) - tennis, golf, and baseball was today's games. Brian coached while Bob played Bob Jr. Ava sat on the sidelines calling out all the avatars by name - which proves we did a good job making them look just like all of us.

Family Christmas Brunch

We headed to Brian's cousin's house for a family tradition - Christmas brunch. It was nice seeing some of Brian's family we haven't seen since our wedding. Pictured below - Brian & Luke, Mr. Kenney the Rockstar, & us with Mary and the kids. Being the pregnant pig I am - holiday meals have been wonderful and I made out really well at the brunch.

Goofing Around

We are so thankful that Val is so good with the kids. This picture was taken on Christmas evening when Luke and Val decided to play chase. Luke loved it as you can see by the huge smile on his face and Val had fun too - she would wait until Luke rounded the corner to bolt out of sight and then continued that for about 10 trips around the house. It was fun to watch.

Merry Christmas 2009

We had a nice Christmas this year. It was a pretty quiet morning. Brian went to the gym while I slept in, we enjoyed a french toast breakfast together, and opened presents between the three of us - Val made out pretty well this year with lots of fun toys. We weren't going to do presents this year, but Brian insisted once we put the tree up that we had to exchange something on Christmas morning. We later headed out to Bob & Mary's and enjoyed our time together with everyone.

The Feast of the 7 Meatballs

We celebrated Christmas in Philly this year. What that means is we miss the Christmas Eve celebration in the Burgh. It isn't the feast of the 7 fishes, but it is fried butterfly shrimp & homemade raviolis. And while it isn't a feast of 7 fishes, it is a feast we were sad to miss. In fact, Brian asked if my cousin Kathy could Fed Ex us some because it is that good.

Being that we couldn't be with our Italian family for the holidays, we paged through our Lidia's cookbook and made spaghetti and meatballs. Mr. Kenney & Pat joined us on Christmas Eve and when it was all said and done, we all probably ate 7 meatballs. Not fish - just homemade Italian meat-a-balls.

It was great company on a special day and we got to open up a huge package Jimmy sent of homemade wines and jams. Pictured above.

The Blizzard of 2009

We always say we love a good blizzard and love lots of snow - the silence, the comfort of staying inside with the fire and family, as well as seeing others helping others plow out of the snow. I'm not so sure Brian feels that way after the blizzard of 2009. 12 inches into it, he looked out the window after three bouts of shoveling and said, "stop the madness!" After 23 inches he asked me to get him a chiropractor and hernia surgery for Christmas. He did all the shoveling himself since everyone told me to take it easy being pregnant and all. While he didn't really enjoy it this time, Val had a blast frolicking in the deep snow. We thank Brian for all his hard work.

Gearing up for Christmas

We got our tree pretty early after Thanksgiving and had fun decorating it with lots of colored lights. Every Christmas, Brian likes to tell me that his favorite lights are the "big bulb" colored lights, and each year I have to pretend like I never heard that before. We make sure to put at least one strand on the tree to satisfy this special request. We blasted Christmas tunes and decorated the tree - pulling out ornament after ornament out of the box. Each ornament tied to a special memory, our first Christmas, a relative we love, or a vacation spot. So much fun and so many memories. And when you look at the picture - it is not your eyes or the photo. Yes, our tree is leaning a bit and the star is a bit off center. We didn't want to adjust it. It's just a message that you can still see beauty in imperfection.
Take a look at Val - geared up in hat and collar. She can't wait for Christmas day to open up her presents.

Christmas Cookies Part II

As planned we spent our Sunday cooking up a batch of chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies. They were delish and I'm surprised we still have them left over after a few weeks.

It's Been Too Long

Last time I saw my sweet Alana and adorable Gavin was early October. We never made it into the Burgh for Thanksgiving and are hanging back in Philly for Christmas. I'm not sure when we'll get to see them, but my mom sent these pictures from a photo shoot that my cousin Rebecca D'Angelo shot. They warm my heart. Hugs and kisses!

Bob Turns 40

Happy Birthday Bob!

Christmas Sugar Cookies

As a kid we would always go over the river, through the woods and mountains to my Grandparents' house. We would arrive and many times would make sugar cookies with my Grandma, Aunt Charlene, and cousins. We would decorate the cookies with lots of icing, sprinkles, and those little silver balls.

Brian and I decided we were going to make lots of cookies this weekend and wanted to see if Ava and Luke wanted to join in the fun. So reliving a bit of my childhood, we headed over 611, through the Fairway to Mr. Kenney's house to decorate sugar cookies with Ava and Luke. Even Val joined in the fun - she was covered with flour. It was a lot of fun.

Val Update

We received some very good news about Val this week. After a few months of medication, bottled water (per Jimmy), prayers, love, and more prayers, it seems that Val's condition is stable and in the mildest form. Her urine protein went down and the vet said if she presented that number at first he wouldn't have been inclined to put her on medication. Her blood protein went up and is in the normal range. Brian and I were ecstatic to hear such good news. And Val has been jumping for joy lately too - she is obsessed with her ball and plays catch all night long with us. So thank you to all for praying and sending good healing vibes because it is working - keep it coming.

Thanksgiving 2009

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year at our house. Mr. Kenney, Bob, Mary, and the kids joined us in our thankfulness for an awesome 2009 and to an even more awesome 2010. Brian made a succulent turkey and we enjoyed all the sides of the great feast. Pictured above are shots from the evening - Brian and his masterpiece, the Kenney boys, and what would an event be without a picture of Ava draped over Val. Love and happiness to all!

Uncle Jim - For Real

Jim was in DC for work and was able to stop up to Philly for about 18 hours to celebrate Bob's 40th birthday. Bob's birthday is in December, but Mary threw a party a few weeks early. It worked out great since Jimmy got to come. We don't get to see Jimmy that often so we headed out to Bob & Mary's to spend some time with everyone. Bob told us a funny story about what Ava said on their way to pick Jim up at the train. Ava wanted to see the train come in, but Bob said she wouldn't be able to see it. So Ava said, "Is it a pretend?" Bob said, "no." And then Ava said, "Is Uncle Jim pretend?" I probably got it a little wrong, but we thought that was funny since we don't get to see him that often and she wondered if he was pretend.

Our Lime-Sized It

I have hated being pregnant so far - ask Brian (or anyone else for that matter). I've been the biggest complainer on the face of the Earth...considering all the women who have gone through this very similar experience. But the one thing I absolutely love is getting to see our baby on an ultrasound. It is my absolute favorite! Brian and I check a website every week that tells us how big the baby is and they always compare it to a type of food. This week we call Baby Kenney, "Limey" because that is how big they say it is (the size of a Lime).

I'm 12 weeks and 4 days today and will be approaching the 2nd trimester very shortly. We can't wait to find out what sex the baby is and will let you all know. In the meantime, enjoy the picture of our lime-sized it.

Reunited

One of the greatest things about Facebook is it gives you a chance to reconnect with really good friends that you lose touch with as life goes on. That's the case with Natalie - a really, really good friend from high school who I reconnected with on FB. Nat stopped by to catch up after 17+ years last week and it was so very good to see her. We really enjoyed Nat's company and introducing her to Val-e-Val-e-Val. Nat is an avid dog lover so Val had no problem demonstrating her lap-dog tendencies. We look forward to keeping in touch with Nat, especially Val!

Secret Love

Since I have been working from home, I have had the pleasure to take Val on her afternoon walks. Every day around 12:30 we would pass the postal truck at the end of the street, and every day Val would pull me toward it to just about jump in the truck. For the first few weeks I thought it was cute that Val just thought it was Brian's jeep and wanted to go for a ride.

Then one day, we caught the postman coming out of the postal truck. I, of course was embarrassed at how Val was pulling me toward the truck, and before I could tell him that the truck must remind Val of my husband's Jeep - the postman pulled out a treat and said, "Hi Val."

A ha! It all finally fell into place. The postman had said he has been giving Val a treat for the past few weeks when our dog walker would take her on her afternoon walk. So now it all made sense. I'm telling you, it is like a love fest! At lunch when we pass 2-3 postal trucks on the walk, you would think that her heart is breaking as we round a corner and the truck goes out of sight. She just keeps pausing to look back in hopes it will reappear - handing out a treat. I've even caught her pretending to scratch her neck to sneak a peek back in the distance.

It's kind of weird our dog is in love with the postal truck, but it still makes me giggle everytime she pulls me toward one.

Happy Halloween 2009

Bob, Mary, Ava and Luke swung by on Halloween to show off their costumes. Ava was a pony in the picture below, but we heard she also sported a Dorothy, witch, and Daffy Duck costume before the night was over. Luke was a lion. And what you can't see from the picture is how hot that lion suit was and he kept it on until Uncle Brian got home to see it.

The News is Out...

So I captured this picture on my Blackberry on 10/8/09 and sent it to Brian in an email at work telling him we are pregnant. It may be the 2009 way of telling your husband you're pregnant. I took two tests that day cause I just couldn't believe it and wanted to make sure it was real.

We were planning on it, but didn't think it would happen so fast. We are excited, a little freaked out and a bit anxious about the whole experience. And I must say that I have not been feeling all that well - nauseous and exhausted - hence no exciting new posts or events because I have spent the past few weeks on the couch or going to bed early.

So I'm 9 weeks pregnant. A little early to be telling people so I am told, but the news is out and now all I ask is since you now know, you are required to pray for a healthy pregnancy for the baby and me. Brian and I had an ultrasound this week and got to see our little grape sized baby and the super fast heartbeat. It was pretty cool to see since all I have known so far of this little one is how sick he/she is making me feel. Looking forward to the 2nd trimester and it can't come soon enough.

A Blessing of the Animals - Part II

And when we got home from Stone Harbor, we found out there was another Blessing of the Animals at our church, so we are taking all the blessings we can get. Grandpa Kenney also got a medal blessed and Val is currently wearing it around her collar. We head to a holistic vet on Friday and then back for another check in to the vet who diagnosed her on Saturday. Pray for the fluke and that she is healed! Thanks all.

Blessing of the Animals

As many of you may know, we received some not so positive news about Val's health. She was diagnosed with PLN (protein-losing nephropathy) a few days before we headed to the beach. Basically it is a life-threatening disease that can't be reversed. To say the least, Brian and I were devastated and I will admit that I cried myself to sleep the night we got the diagnosis. What we do know is that we caught it early and it is not in a progressive stage and currently she is being treated with medication.

Val seems to be doing really well - she seems to be back to her normal self and enjoyed her vacation, so we are really hopeful that this was a fluke and she has been misdiagnosed and will be fine - living a long life with us. The thing is, we remembered a quote we heard from my nephew Gavin's baptism. "If you have hope, you can change the evidence." And let me tell you, there has been a boat load of hope coming from Brian and me. And to top it all off, we found out while we were at Stone Harbor, that they were having a Blessing of the Animals. It is fate. Val was blessed and is on the road to recovery. We thank you for all your prayers - Val is our baby girl, the best dog ever, and we love her dearly.

Everyone Has There Own Way of Getting in the Water

One of my favorite parts of the shore is getting in the ocean and riding in the waves with my family. Much of my family are pros at body surfing - my Gramps taught my dad & aunts, and they taught all of us. But one thing I noticed this year is while we all have the same goal of catching the perfect wave, we all have a very different way of getting into the ocean to enjoy the surf.

In October, the air is crisp and can be chilly so getting in the water requires dedication and a little courage. There are those like Josh who show up at the beach with a "nothing will stop me" attitude to get in the ocean. He kind of reminds me of the Terminator - blank expression, taking one step after the other without stopping until he is submerged in the water. Then there is John who confidently walks in and quickly dives in. Then there are others like me, Jessa & Aunt Charlene who take every step with caution, squealing with every step, then waiting until the numbing goes away from the sections of the body before we continue on. It was a little rough this year, a little chilly, but there is nothing that compares to a refreshing dip in the Atlantic to top of your day. Until next year...

Val Vacation Shots

Val just loves her vacation at the Jersey shore - freedom from her leash with a run on the beach, chasing the foam of the ocean, walks all over town, and relaxing in the sun after a long day of nothingness.

First Bike Rides All Around

With Alana approaching 3, David & Ellen took Alana for her first bike ride around Stone Harbor. Geared up with her helmet, Alana was ready for an adventure. From what I understand, she talked the entire way and enjoyed the ride.

And while Alana got to enjoy the wind in her hair while others pedaled around town, we decided to rent a surrey and get Grams & Aunt Tina out on the road too. Aunt Tina told us she never learned to bike ride and it was fun listening to her laugh the entire ride. A special thanks to Josh & Ryan who joined me for almost the entire time. It is a lot of work for those having to pedal, but it was a lot of fun.

Game Nights

Nothing compares to last year's charades game with Dad acting out "Sweating Like a Whore in Church." But we continued the tradition and played some of our favorite games throughout the week like Guesstures, Catch Phrase, & Scattegories. It was a lot of fun and above captures pictures from the game-filled evenings. We captured Grams acting out her clues for Guesstures.

The Grands & the Greats

Grandma Morse is the matriarch of the family. She has pretty much run the show the majority of her life. And one thing I am very grateful for is her insistence of having her family with her for special occasions - whether it was Christmas, another holiday or vacation to Stone Harbor, her family was always there. It was kind of an unwritten rule in her family handbook that everyone just seemed to follow. Which is why it just makes sense that her entire family continues to head down to Stone Harbor each year to celebrate being together. Pictured above is Grandma with her 6 grandchildren (David, Josh, me, Jessa, Brendan, & Ryan), our significant others (Ellen, Brian, John, and Krysten), and her 6 great grandchildren (Marissa, Grace, Brendan, Alana, Gavin, and Alexa). We look forward to continuing to make great family memories for years to come - thanks to our Grandma.

Stone Harbor 2009

It was our fourth year heading to Stone Harbor for our October vacation. It is so peaceful down there during this time of year. We have everything to ourselves and really get to enjoy our time together. We enjoyed the beach when it wasn't so windy, swam in the ocean, enjoyed cocktails throughout the day, and gathered each night for a feast hosted by one of our 3 houses. It was a super fun vacation and as always, we are looking forward to next year. Pictures below contain captions.Sunrise on last day at the beach.
